Motivation
Caregivers are facing increasing pressure to cut costs and rising quality standards, all while having less time to provide care. This leads to stress, incomplete documentation, and quality issues. To support nursing staff, smart solutions such as nursing glasses are needed to ease the burden of daily care. A prerequisite for this support is having hands-free capability during the care process.
Objectives and Approach
Pflegebrille 2.0 builds on the findings of the Pflegebrille research project, which conducted fundamental research into the use of augmented reality to support nursing staff. In Nursing Glasses 2.0, this concept—which has been widely accepted by nursing staff—will be further explored. Nursing-related topics such as wound management will be addressed and prepared so that they can be accessed via the glasses as needed. In collaboration with care service providers, content is jointly created and technically implemented. Interfaces with common documentation and care management software, which are to be developed and evaluated, are intended to contribute to acceptance and marketability.
Innovations and Outlook
The Care Glasses are currently the only available solution designed to support nursing practice that offers a wide range of different functions. In the long term, the nursing glasses can improve the quality of care and thus reduce the workload on nursing staff. The medium-term goal is to establish a spin-off company. For these reasons, among others, the project is also funded by the BMBF.
TV reports on reading glasses
On January 21, the HCIS team had the exciting opportunity to film two television segments about the nursing glasses.
Titled "Digital Glasses for Caregivers," the NDR segment aired on January 22 on Hallo Niedersachsen:
The RTL segment was also aired on January 22. Under the title “Smart Idea: These Glasses Are Designed to Help Caregivers in Their Daily Work,” the glasses were first featured on RTL Nord and then even nationwide on RTL Aktuell:
