Safety glasses

As a result of demographic change, Western society is evolving into a population that is, on average, older. This presents various challenges in certain sectors, such as the healthcare sector; for example, sufficient resources (staff, capacity) must be available to respond adequately to these challenges. In the field of (formal) care, the challenges include, among other things, strained capacities, a shortage of professionally trained staff, or rural areas where sufficient professional care cannot be provided.

In the “Pflegebrille” project, we support informal caregivers—such as family members or friends of a patient—in home care by making the circumstances and environment of the person being cared for more pleasant.

To this end, we are developing a concept using so-called smart glasses (or augmented reality glasses) to deploy these glasses in home intensive care and thereby support informal caregivers in their work. The glasses are used, for example, to display helpful information or to receive assistance from professional caregivers via the video call function.

Informal caregivers often lack the medical qualifications or training to respond adequately to every possible care situation. To support them in facing potential challenges, the care glasses not only offer the advantage of providing caregivers with as much important information as possible, but also have the added benefit of keeping their hands free for caregiving tasks while operating the glasses.
